Is it time for us to say goodbye to the Sex and the City girls?

March 15th 2007 06:33
When are us gals gonna get over Sex and the City? I know I haven’t.
But, c’mon, how long’s it been really???
How much longer can we keep blaming our lack of activity in terms of marriage/babies/budgeting/fid elity on SATC? Telling ourselves “this is how Carrie thinks”… “this is what was acceptable for the SATC gals”… “our Mums’ generation may have acted differently, but this is the noughties and sooo Sex/City…”
The sitcom really encapsulated the hearts and minds of ladies the world over. And, nothing has truly replaced it (sorry Desperate Housewives fans). But, now what?
Do we keep musing on how so totally Carrie we are - or do we wait for another TV phenomenon to tell us how we are now thinking? Have our lifestyles been re-shaped at all since the SATC gals closed up shop – or do we now need a new mantra? (I know there’s a new film coming out featuring the gals, but this won’t truly replace our former weekly ritual – puh-lease!)

Perhaps even the mantras of the SATC gals changed somewhat by the show’s finale – all of them had found loved ones (of the male variety) and none were truly single and sexy in the city anymore. Maybe that’s food for thought for us all? Time to move on and move up. Who will the next Carrie idol be?...

Miss Mouse, initially I was dragged into watching Sex And The City with my girlfriend, because she said it was the only truly "girly" show offered to women on prime time cable...but eventually, after a few episodes I too was hooked...I laughed and felt sorry and got angry right along with the those women and the sometimes outlandish and creepy and heartbreaking things that used to happen to them...it also gave me a new outlook on the female species lol...and Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) has nothing to worry about, in real life she has Matthew Broderick to come home to...Great blog, keep up the good work!

Take care,

Nick
